DAIRY COWS FOR DAR US SALAAM
|
The Mauritania Foundation is excited to announce an expansion of our Dairy Cow project to support the fuqara and students at Dar us Salaam. Last year, we successfully procured 16 dairy cows to provide milk to those in need and support local students. This year, our goal is to increase the herd to 36 cows. With your support, we aim to expand the project to new communities across Mauritania, providing even more nourishment and support to those in need.
Background A recent study by the United Nations' World Food Program revealed that 1 in 5 children in Mauritania suffer from chronic malnutrition. With over 90% of the population residing in rural desert areas, villagers depend on their farms and livestock for sustenance. According to the IPM-M, 2.3 million people, accounting for 56.9% of the population, live in multidimensional poverty, lacking in education, health, living standards, and employment opportunities. The reality of poverty in Mauritania has been witnessed firsthand by our dedicated team members who regularly assist the Mauritania Foundation. Countless elderly, disabled, sick, and underprivileged individuals seek aid from our organization, highlighting the pressing need to support impoverished families in the region. Why Dairy Cows? Dairy cows offer an environmentally sustainable source of nutrition. A single dairy cow can produce 6 to 7 gallons of milk daily, which amounts to over 100 cups of milk! With 16 dairy cows, we can supply more than 1600 cups of milk daily, benefiting hundreds of families. Milk's nutrient-rich composition, including calcium, vitamin D, protein, and potassium, supports bone health, muscle growth, and overall well-being, aiding strong bones, a boosted immune system, and weight management. Moreover, in hot climates like Mauritania, milk serves as a refreshing and hydrating option to quench thirst and combat the heat. The Cost Each Dairy Cow costs approximately $900, and our goal is to expand the herd by 20 cows, totaling $18,000. This investment will allow us to provide thousands of people with a sustainable supply of milk. May Allah bless the cows we obtain and make them a true source of benefit for the fuqara and students. Enjoin Each Other in Charity For a land so religiously and spiritually rich, it is our obligation as an Ummah to try an enrich those in Mauritania that are afflicted with poverty and extreme economic hardship. Allah Says in the Qur'an: Those who spend their wealth [in Allah 's way] by night and by day, secretly and publicly - they will have their reward with their Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve. And give the relative his right, and [also] the poor and the traveler, and do not spend wastefully. O you who have believed, spend from that which We have provided for you before there comes a Day in which there is no exchange and no friendship and no intercession. And the disbelievers - they are the wrongdoers. [Charity is] for the poor who have been restricted for the cause of Allah, unable to move about in the land. An ignorant [person] would think them self-sufficient because of their restraint, but you will know them by their [characteristic] sign. They do not ask people persistently [or at all]. And whatever you spend of good - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it. |
