Fundraising Goal this Ramadan – The Tawfeeq Initiative
To continue supporting the students of Dar Us Salaam, building a well in one of the most impoverished villages of Mauritania, and providing poverty alleviation.
Dar us Salaam Academy is one of the few schools left in the world preserving a traditional and holistic model of orthodox Sunni Islamic education. It stands on the principle that much of the perversion of Islam seen today is due to the abandonment of this traditional model, in which texts were understood through the rigorous interpretations of highly qualified scholars and passed down through unbroken chains of narration (isnad).
Students at Dar us Salaam — through rote memorization supplemented by explanation from a trained and qualified teacher – study:
This Ramadan we are seeking to build a well in the village of Wad Jamal. Wad Jamal is an extremely barren and remote village located in the Taganat region of Mauritania. Despite being impoverished, the villagers are known for their generosity. They are a people who have nothing, but give everything.
Due to the extreme drought in the area, the villagers are seeking aid and assistance to build a well in their village. They attempted to dig a well, but did not have the means to do it properly. Not only did the well become a hazardous hole in the ground, but the water from there is not potable.
While there are many worthy causes in the world today, we cannot forget to support those who are constantly in the face of drought, famine, and, in many cases, starvation. Mauritania is known to be amongst the poorest countries in Africa and the economical effect of COVID-19 has only increased them in poverty.
The price of goods have doubled, businesses have gone bankrupt, and people have lost their jobs. This Ramadan we are seeking to raise $50,000 for our poverty alleviation efforts.
