Fidyah/Kaffarah

Fidyah Rates:
~ $7.00 per individual
~ per 60 people: $420

Note: The Cost Rate is based on where the donor is living. In most cases, it is assumed that the donor is living in either United States or Europe, thus the cost is greater than expected. This is based on the Fiqh of Zakat/Fasting according to the Madhab of Imam Malik.

Fidyah:
When someone is not able to fast in Ramadan and cannot make them up afterwards (primarily due to ill health or pregnancy) they need to pay for someone else to be fed; payments are meant to feed a person in need for each of the fasting days missed.

The estimated cost is $7 for each day missed or $210 – (for all of Ramadan).

Kaffara

Kaffarah is the compensation that one needs to pay if a fast is deliberately missed or broken in the month of Ramadan without a valid reason.

The estimated cost to feed 60 people is $420 for each day missed.

Say, 'O Prophet, that Allah says,' “O My servants who have exceeded the limits against their souls! Do not lose hope in Allah’s mercy, for Allah certainly forgives all sins. He is indeed the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Surah az-Zumar (39:53)

Fidya and Kaffarah:

By the mercy given by Allah ﷻ in this religion, Fidyah and Kaffarah aree a means for Muslims to pay back their previous sins.

The payment also benefits members of the ummah who live in impoverished conditions.
